Kathleen DeWitt

Transitional Kindergarten Teacher

I have always had a passion for working with children as long as I can remember. Before attending college, I volunteered at my children’s schools; I was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader; I managed a gymnastic center and taught the Mommy and Me classes, and provided childcare.  I am the proud mom of four beautiful and intelligent daughters. They have blessed me with 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. We vacation at National Parks, the Beach, and often in Hawaii.

My journey in academia started after my daughters were all in school. I attended the campuses of Riverside Community College District with a passion to learn child development. There I soared in Early Childhood and found my niche to be involved in community, campus life, and activities. I worked at the college's Laboratory Preschool as an infant/toddler and preschool teacher. I was President of the Early Childhood Educators Club for 2 years and received numerous awards for our club's involvement on our campuses and in the Riverside, Corona/Norco Communities. I transferred to CSU San Bernardino and majored in Psychology and Human Development with an emphasis in Early Childhood. After, I earned a Master's in Educational Guidance and Counseling and a PPS credential for School Counseling. I served as Liaison for the CA State in the Early Childhood CalWORKs program. I taught Early Childhood courses at RCC and became a High School Counselor at the Campus’ credit recovery Charter High School, Gateway to College. I decided to go back into teaching, so I received my Teaching credential at California Baptist University. Working in Corona at Jefferson Elementary for two years prepared me for what was to be here at iEmpire Academy. I am now in my tenth year of teaching and feel blessed to work with the greatest kiddos around. Each day as they grow and develop into valued human beings, I am proud to be a part of their academic journey.

I live and work by the philosophy that everyone deserves to have a quality education. Some need more help than others need, but I find that when you care and create a bond with those you are working with, it is easier to overcome and provide what is needed. It seems my journey here was long and had many detours, but it has all been worth it.  Working with the scholars here has been so rewarding and joyful.
